Following in their footsteps; the children of the FDNY 18 years later

As the nation marks the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks here in new York, a special group of fire department recruits, more than a dozen are in training.

They are children of firefighters who lost their lives on that day. And one mother in particular has an extra reason to be proud. Her children are some of the dozen future fire fighters in training, following in their fathers footsteps.

A father of six, Carl Asaro’s life was dedicated to family and community.

A veteran New York city firefighter, Asaro died on that crisp September day while answering the call of duty.

His wife Heloiza, says that day changed her family forever, and now her children are honoring their fathers’ legacy.

Carl’s 25-year old son Marc and 27-year old daughter Rebecca are set to graduate in the latest FDNY class in two weeks.

His sons Matthew and Carl are already on the job and work everyday to fill their fathers boots and keep his honor alive.
