ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — The Chemung County department of information is reporting that four new cases of legionella, bringing the total to 11 cases.
Fortunately, there are no reported deaths. They do not yet know the cause of the increase in diagnoses in the area, but they continue to investigate every lead. The only common denominator in a few of the cases is that the patients live near each other on Elmira’s Southside.
Sampling in patient’s homes occurred this week on Monday and Tuesday. Samples were also taken at Dunn Field and at the cooling tower of the First Arena. The reason for these additional tests is to move outward from the neighborhood in question to try and gather as much evidence as possible.
