Free school supplies to be given to students at Elmira-Corning NAACP’s annual Back to School celebration

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Georgia Verdier, President of the NAACP Elmira-Corning branch stopped by 18 news Today to discuss the branch’s upcoming Back to School celebration.

The Back to School celebration is held every year to help provide school supplies to children in need. The event is free and open to the public and will take place Saturday, August 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is being held at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church located at 402 Sullivan Street in Elmira.

This year’s theme is “Help A Child, Give School Supplies.” There will also be food and drinks as well as special guest speaker Jason T. Eastman, Ph.D. to talk about the importance of participating in the upcoming 2020 census.
