Every year hundreds of campers hop in their RVs and head down to Watkins Glen International for race weekend. But new this year..
For those who want to live life in the fast line while seated in the lap of luxury..there’s glamping.
“It was so much easier, you just bring your cooler, and my bin with clothes, and just show up. It was absolutely fantastic. Plus, he didn’t want to put anything else up,” Angela Knight Van Schaayk, from Ontario, said.
“Just kind of backing the car in, nothing to set up, everything inside is ready for us, we’re good to go,” Kevin Metzger from Hamlin, N.Y. said.
Everything is set up for you upon your arrival..along with some sweet surprises.
“And there was a little basket full of stuff with wine, I mean who wouldn’t want that?” Knight Van Schaayk said.
Free food, including a grilling station complete with Sahlen’s hot dogs, firewood, a bottle of wine, and passes to some of the most exclusive events of the weekend, are all included in the deal.
“It’s absolutely gorgeous, I mean we got little cots and wine and glasses..and rugs..it’s got everything you need,” Chris Stackhouse, from Ontario, said.
The word “glamorous” comes to mind…
Arguably the best feature of the glamping experience…the bathrooms. Visitors who have gone the more traditional camping route tell me this perk can definitely not be underestimated.
“I’ve camped in the infield for years.. This is definitely an upgrade.”
The glamping grounds were not sold out this year…but the glampers I spoke with sound like they wouldn’t settle for anything less next year.
“From what I’ve gone through so far, I may leave the little camper at home. This is definitely a good time,” Metzger said.
