On Thursday, April 25 at 4:00 PM, a special ground blessing ceremony is set for the next Chemung County Habitat house located at 927 Scio Street in Elmira.
The house will become the forever home for the Ruth family.
Chemung County Habitat for Humanity works alongside families to build a stronger foundation for their future. “With our help and community support, homeowners achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to shape a better tomorrow for themselves and their families,” said Sylvie Farr, Executive Director.
The future homeowners were selected into the Habitat program and have been earning sweat equity hours by working on Habitat homes and completing homeownership classes.
By the time they move into their home, they will have completed 400 volunteer “sweat equity” hours. Thanks to the generous support from community sponsors, donors and volunteers, along with an affordable mortgage, the Ruth family will soon realize their dream of homeownership.
Anyone interested in donating toward home construction, volunteering at a work site, or applying for a home through Chemung County Habitat for Humanity should call (607) 734-1361 or visit them on their FaceBook.
