Housing Visions hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate their affordable housing unit coming to downtown Elmira.
The Unit is called Chemung Crossing and will be in Elmira’s South Main Street neighborhood.
There will be 45 new housing units built and a mixture of one, two, and three bedrooms.
Daniel Mandell, Elmira Mayor, said it represents a change that Elmira desperately needs.
“The direct benefit is the people who will live in the units, but also the ripples of development of showing other neighbors and people that are here, that is wise to invest,” Ben Lockwood, Vice president of Business Development at Housing Visions, said.
Lockwood hopes it will help make South Main Street a more vibrant place.
Applications for Chemung Crossing will be accepted in roughly 6 months and the entire project is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
