Joseph Meyers convicted of First Degree Murder

A Steuben County man is guilty of burning his friend to death to collect insurance money.

Late Friday afternoon, a Steuben County jury found 45-year-old Joseph Meyers guilty of First Degree Murder in the 2016 arson killing of 60-year-old David O’Dell. 

The verdict was returned after just three hours of deliberations and a three week trial with more than 30 witnesses. 

Meyers showed no emotion as the verdict was read. He was taken to the Steuben County jail. Sentencing is set for June 19th. Meyers faces a possible life sentence.

His wife also faces charges in this case. 

Her trial begins on July 5th.
