Jury selection begins in trial of man accused in Waterloo double murder

Jury selection has begun for the man accused of opening fire in the Village of Waterloo, killing his ex-girlfriend and another man while injuring a third person.

Emerson “John” Tohafjian was arrested on July 11, hours after troopers say he ambushed his ex-girlfriend Lori McConnell, Charlie Andrus and another woman.

McConnell and Andrus were both killed in the shooting. The third victim suffered injuries and was treated at the hospital.

The shooting sparked a multi-hour manhunt that ended with Tohafjian being arrested while hiding out at a Phelps campground.

Tohafjian faces life behind bars for the two murder counts.

As of 4:30 p.m., there were at least eight jurors seated in the trial.
