A large shed was stolen from the backyard and Elmira Police are looking for the suspects described as two white males with a blue flatbed truck.
Police said the theft happened back on May 8.
A few neighbors said they were surprised a shed was stolen. Joseph Matthewson, one of the neighbors, said he is going to better secure his property after not knowing the theft happened.
“A shed is a pretty big object, you know it’s not like taking a bicycle out of somebody’s yard,” Matthewson said. “It does sound pretty strange to steal someone’s shed, but we’re in strange times.”
Even police were surprised by the theft.
“This is the first time I can recall that a shed has been stolen from a yard,” Lt. William Solt of the Elmira Police Department said.
Solt issued some tips to make sure residents with moveable sheds know what to do in case their sheds are stolen.
“Have as many features that you can describe to us as you can so we can try to investigate it,” Solt said.
He said to keep records of any serial numbers, make note of special features to help investigators distinguish your property, and if you have cameras, then prodivde those to the police to identify any suspects.
The Elmira Police Department continues to investigate this larceny and is requesting public assistance in locating the shed. If you have any information, you are urged to contact the Elmira Police Department at either (607) 737-5626 or the anonymous tip line, (607) 271-HALT
