Late-night river rescue, brother and sister stuck on the Chemung


ASHLAND, N.Y. (18 NEWS) – A brother and his younger sister are safe and unharmed Wednesday morning, after a late-night trip on the Chemung River in the Town of Ashland took a turn for the worse, officials said.

The 21-year-old man and his 17-year-old sister were rescued before midnight after their rubber raft got stuck on an island upstream, according to fire officials on the scene.

18 NEWS was at the boat launch, where area fire departments along with state police were staged. A river rescue crew was there as well.

Again, the young man and woman were not injured.
