MILLERTON, P.A. (18NEWS) — 105 year old Archie Lain celebrates Christmas with five generations of family.

Archie Lain was born on November 8, 1909 when the world was a very different place. For some perspective, President Taft had announced a naval base would be built at Pearl Harbor would be built just three days after Lain’s birthday. It was said at the time to be the world’s largest naval base, and its construction was budgeted for around $3 million.

In 2014, Lain celebrated Christmas Eve in the company of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He finds amusement in his grand children’s smart phones, tablets and computers.

Lain has been a hard worker all of his life, owning and running an apple orchard in Millerton for a number of years, eventually splitting his time between his Pennsylvania hometown and a second home in Florida. It was just two years ago at the ripe old age of 103, that Lain decided to retire from his job as a grocery bagger at the Sweetbay Supermarket.

He lives with his son, James and daughter in law, Pam in Millerton, with a gaggle of children from multiple generations streaming in and out of the house constantly.

His granddaughter, Carey Wood, said she is proud of her grandpa.

“It’s a new adventure every day and he giggles about that because I tell him every day we learn something new… but I just think it’s awesome he plays with the babies he pretty much likes to watch and see what they’re doing, it’s great.”

Wood said the best gift this year will be having so many generations under the same roof, the family is hosting 27 for Christmas dinner.

“I’m lucky to have a grandpa that’s 105 years old a lot of people they wouldn’t even… it doesn’t happen to very many people. But I know myself that he’s lived a life long good life and I’ve never seen him upset or angry or nothing, ever. I just think that he’s very much at peace.”
