Corning City officials will soon learn more about the apartment complex planned for the former Corning Hospital site.
They’re being developed by Riedman Development of Rochester which built Woods Edge Apartments in Erwin and Hickory Grove Apartments in Horseheads.
Corning Enterprises President Tom Tranter says Reidman’s plans for the old hospital site will be presented to the Corning City Planning Commission in April.
He says the 85 apartments at the site will be market rate apartments.
Tranter said a housing study done in Corning indicated more market rate housing was needed and that it’s particularly attractive to have it close to downtown.
Demolition of the vacant former hospital building is expected to begin this spring.
The apartment project will need to go through an environmental review and get site plan approval from the city.
