Another Elmira Woman Busted For Welfare Fraud

Today Elmira Police arrested Heather Austin on an active Elmira City Court warrant for Welfare Fraud in the third degree, Grand Larceny in the third degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree.

An investigation was conducted by the Department of Social Services Special Investigation Unit and the Elmira Police Dept. The investigation found that Heather Austin did file fraudulent paperwork with the Department of Social Services and received $4,221 in Public Assistance Benefits she was not entitled to receive.

Welfare Fraud in the third degree and Grand Larceny in the third degree are class D felonies and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree is a class E felony.
