Avoca Man Steals Farming Equipment

A routine patrol in Avoca Saturday night interrupted a crime in progress, according to New York State Police.

A trooper discovered broken glass and other debris on State Route 415. The trooper found a John Deere Tractor and hay baler nearby, both had extensive damage.

State Police said an investigation lead to the arrest of 37 year-old, Edward Learn. Learn, allegedly stole the tractor and baler from a field in the Village of Avoca, and later drove the equipment through the lawn of a private property on Owens Road causing extensive damage.

Learn, who resisted arrest, also caused damage to a trooper’s car, according to State Police. He is facing multiple charges which include, grand larceny, driving while intoxicated, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Learn was sent to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $15,000.00 cash bail. State Police said the investigation into the damage done to the tractor, baler and lawn is ongoing. Additional charges are pending.
