Carrie Hooper is a German instructor at Elmira College.

She’s blind, but she doesn’t let that stop her from doing what she loves.

Despite her disability, Carrie has taken her love of foreign language and written a number of poems and books in an effort to share the importance of cultural understanding.

Carrie said learning about history and current events from around the world is what our country needs to obtain peace.

“This is really how we will win the war on terrorism, it’s each individual striving for cultural acceptance,” Carrie said.

Carrie has also served as an ambassador for Voice of America, an organization that broadcasts world news in several different languages.
