The Chemung County Health Department is offering a free rabies clinic on Sat. April 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Horseheads Town Hall at 150 Wygant Road.

All animals must be with an adult who can hold them during the shot, and all animals must be securely confined. Dogs may be on a leash.

Dogs, cats, and ferrets must be at least three months old to receive the vaccination. Initial vaccinations are good for only a year and must be renewed one year after the initial shot.

Ferrets must be vaccinated every year.

Dogs and cat owners who have previously had their pet vaccinated must bring proof of prior vaccination to receive a rabies certificate that is good for three years.

The clinic is free and for New York residents only, and donations are appreciated.

For more information, contact the SPCA at 607-732-1827.

If special assistance is needed at the clinic, call 607-737-2019 to pre-register for the event.
