New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday when he’ll start phasing in the $15 dollar an hour minimum wage for all state government workers.
Low-wage state workers in Upstate New York will start earning at least $9.75 an hour starting December 31st.
It goes up to $10.75 an hour by December 31st of next year and will hit $15 dollars an hour on July 1, 2021.
That’s the same time that all chain fast food workers in Upstate New York will be getting at least $15 dollars an hour.
Cuomo’s increasing of the minimum wage for state government workers could increase the pressure on private businesses and local governments to hike wages.
