Governor Cuomo is catching flack after making a joke about the #MeToo movement to a group of reporters Wednesday.
Cuomo was crowded by a group of reporters in Albany Wednesday, discussing the first day of the state’s 2019 legislative session. When one of his aides asked the media to take a step back, the governor said this:
“Generation … space. We need space. I’ll bring you all up on charges under the MeToo movement.”
The joke was met with either uncomfortable laughter or silence by the media members present, but the response on social media was less friendly.
Many disapproved of the timing of Cuomo’s comment, as it fell on a historic day for female politicians in New York. Andrea Stewart-Cousins had just been installed as the first female majority leader for the New York Senate, and a record number of women served their first days in both the House and the Senate.
