ELM Inbound Flight Diverted Back to Philly For Emergency Landing

American Airlines confirms to 18 News that a mechanical issue caused the emergency landing.

32 passengers and 3 crew members were on board when the plane landed back in Philadelphia at 7:16pm tonight.

A replacement aircraft is being arranged to return passengers back to Elmira Corning Regional Airport.

An American Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Elmira Corning Regional Airport was diverted back to Philadelphia for an emergency landing tonight.

AA flight 4839 took off from Philadelphia International Airport around 6:15pm this evening but made an emergency landing back in Philly shortly after due to what the airline calls an “airline maintenance issue.”

A viewer whose wife was on the plane says passengers were told there may have been a hydraulic issue with the aircraft.

American Airlines tells 18 News all passengers are back on the ground safely.

Flight 4839 is scheduled to take off again at 8:20pm and land at Elmira Corning Regional Airport at 9:25pm.
