Elmira City Council: First meeting of 2019

Local News

With a new year comes news projects.

The Elmira City Council met on Monday to discuss some new projects coming in 2019. One of the biggest items on the agenda  was surrounding the Hilliard Corporation. The corporation went to the zoning board for a expansion project by St.Patrick’s Church round-about.

The site will go from a central business and multi family site to a light industrial site. Nonetheless, that isn’t the only thing the council is looking forward to.

The city manager thinks the change in Chemung County government is very positive.

“We started right after the election, where we had met with the current County Exec. Chris Moss. So I think that’s going to be extremely beneficial. We can certainly agree, we can certainly disagree, but we still will be able to be professional and polite and we can still respect each other and I’m looking forward to a good positive relationship with the county government,” said City Manager Michael Collins.

The council will hold another meeting on January 22 for the public comments on the 2019 capital and operating budget. With a special meeting on January 31 for the approval of the 2019 capital budget.
