Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell will announce the city’s new councilman this Thursday at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
The appointee will fill the vacancy in the 4th Council District in the City of Elmira.
18 News spoke with Mandell last week who said the city is considering former Elmira City Councilman Michael Bombarger.
This comes after elected councilman, Mark Hitchcock was arrested for drunk driving and later resigned.
Hitchcock was pulled over by Elmira Police on Feb. 8 when he was likely on his way to a city council meeting which ended up being canceled.
He will be back in court on March 15.
The new councilman will be sworn in on Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
