Elmira Police Department issued the following information Wednesday, as two potential winter storms are set to hit the area this coming weekend.

The Elmira Police Department would like to take this time to remind City of Elmira residents of the two (2) impending winter storms the first of which is forecast to arrive Friday, January 16, 2019 where up to several inches of snow are expected. Winter Storm Harper is expected to arrive Saturday, January 19, 2019, where heavy snow is forecast to fall through Sunday, January 20, 2019, accumulating between 12-18 inches.

Residents of the City of Elmira are encouraged to abide by Odd/Even parking regulations where applicable and to utilize off-street parking if/when available to assist snow removal efforts. Residents are also reminded that during and following winter storm cleanup it is a violation of NY State Vehicle and Traffic Law 1219-a to “throw, deposit, dump and/or place snow upon any highway or within the limits of the right of way of such highway.” Depositing snow in the roadway only hinders cleanup efforts and creates hazardous conditions.
