January is National Human Trafficking Awareness month.

To help raise awareness about human trafficking’s impact on the poor community in the Southern Tier, the Elmira Poor People’s Campaign is teaming up with Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler counties to hold a potluck dinner and discussion.

The dinner will be held at Frederick Douglass Memorial AME Zion Church on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 6-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The discussion will be centered around homelessness and sex trafficking in the area. For more details on the event, visit the organization’s Facebook page.

The Elmira Poor People’s Campaign will also host an event in February to campain for the New York Health Act. That event will be held February 13, at noon at the Elmira riverside Holiday Inn. Lunch will be included.
