Elmira Resident Facing Felony Charges for Assault

An Elmira resident is arrested for Assault Monday morning. 

At approximately 3:15 a.m., Elmira Police Officers responded to a residence on Decker Avenue in reference to a disturbance. 

The first officers on the scene found a person being held down on the ground, who officers were advised had just stabbed someone. 

23-year-old Michael M. Brescia was then taken into custody. 

Officers interviewed people present at the residence and confirmed Brescia was at the residence and began to create problems. When Brescia was asked to leave, the incident escalated into a disturbance and he stabbed another person with a small knife. The knife was recovered at the scene. 

Brescia is charged with Assault in the second degree, which is a class D felony and Resisting Arrest, which is a misdemeanor.
