Fire hydrants in the City of Elmira will be getting flushed starting this week. The Elmira Water Board is performing its annual flush throughout the city.
This week, hydrants on the north side of the Chemung River, up to McCanns Blvd will be flushed. It will cover the east, north, and Downtown areas. Hydrants will also be flushed in portions of West Elmira.
Next week, hydrants south of the river, and north of McCanns Blvd will get flushed. Next week’s flushings also include hydrants in Elmira Heights, Horseheads and remaining hydrants in West Elmira.
The Board says you might see discolored water, but that should clear up within one hour. The board added the discoloration does not pose a health risk, but advises to now do laundry if you see discoloration.
