If you receive a recreational drone this Christmas, you will be required to register it with the federal government.
Starting Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration will open their registration website for small unmanned aircraft owners.
Each owner must provide their name, home address and email address to receive a certificate that will include a unique identification number which must be marked on the aircraft.
Owners must be 13-years or older to register on the website.
The registration fee is free for the first 30 days and then five dollars after that and will be valid for three years.
The FAA says the registration process is an attempt to keep the skies safe for everyone.
Drone operators will be subject to civil and criminal penalties if they fail to register.
The website is www.Faa.Gov/uas/registration/.
