Families Celebrate Labor Day Weekend at Harris Hill

Local News

The grills were hot, the sun was out, and many local families were celebrating their long weekend at Harris Hill Sunday.

“I kind of got the family together at the last minute to get together and enjoy the Labor Day weekend because we had a full year of planning a wedding, so we just figured normal conversations, enjoy the weather and just get together,” Amy Hopkins said.

Harris Hill is a popular holiday picnic spot and every pavilion at the park was full of people cooking out and chilling out.

“We were looking for a place kind of halfway in between for family, so everybody can come and enjoy teach other again one more time for the summer,” Laurie McCoon said.

“My family has been coming here for years,” Jennifer Bell said. “My father grew up here and it’s just nice. There’s just lots of nice things to do, lots of fun stuff around.”

Labor Day is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, and has been a holiday for more than 100 years.  There’s no better way to spend a hard earned day off than with family.

“Every holiday is important to spend with family, the more time with family is the best,” McCoon said.

“I mean that’s what it’s all about, taking the time to appreciate everything that you have,” Hopkins said.

“It’s very important,” Bell said. “We spend a lot of time, especially holidays, to try and get together and do stuff like this in the nice weather.”

However you’re spending your long weekend, these families want you to have a great holiday.

“We just want everybody to enjoy the holiday and stay safe,” Bell said.

“Just wishing everybody the best Labor Day holiday,” Jeffrey Case said .”Be safe and have fun.”
