The New York Department of Environmental Conservation has raised the fire danger rating in the Southern Tier to moderate.

The Chemung County Fire/Emergency Management is also reminding residents of a state-wide burn ban until mid-May.

Anyone who makes a fire is reminded to keep it small and contained, to use proper fuel, and make sure you have a water bucket or water source such as a garden hose in close proximity to your camp or cooking fire in case any embers escape
