Game commission approves early start to deer rifle season

Local News

Deer hunters in Pennsylvania will get an extra day to bag a buck during the regular rifle season.

The Board of Game Commissioners on Tuesday gave final approval to moving the start of the deer season to the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The change creates a 13-day season that includes three Saturdays and ends a 55-year tradition of starting the season on Mondays after the holiday weekend.

The Game Commission says the change will allow more hunters to participate on opening day.
