If you take a walk or drive down Main Street in Towanda, you see a small plot of blue pinwheels outside the Bradford County Courthouse.
The display is part of the county’s proclamation of April as Child Abuse Awareness And Prevention Month.
Bradford County saw 1,008 child abuse cases last year and that’s exactly how many pinwheels there are. That number is out of a population of almost 61,000.
“That’s a big number in a small county, we kind of think that’s a bit staggering,” Ed Bustin, Bradford County Commissioner, said. “There is a help, this isn’t a lifestyle you need to be involved in.”
Several county officials and members of law enforcement and the community took part in the proclamation.
The pinwheels will be up until the end of April.
