The Horseheads teen involved in a near drowning accident on Memorial Day has died, according to an online fundraiser page along with upcoming events being planned in his memory.
Friends of Michael “Mikey” Parker are raising money on gofundme.com for his funeral costs. They said the 16-year-old passed away Wednesday morning.
We are asking for a little help in making sure everyone effected by Mikey’s unexpected death has closure. I’m amazed by the many lives that Mikey has impacted in his short life. Mikey had a big heart and showed compassion for all. He loved worshiping God, playing in the band, singing, and writing songs.

His LineCrossers Motorcycle Ministry, a fellowship and outreach ministry of His Tabernacle Family Church in Horseheads, is hosting a “A Ride for Mikey.” The benefit ride, taking place this Saturday, is being held to help offset funeral expenses.
New York State Police said Parker, a student at Horseheads High School, was swimming with friends Monday evening at the gravel pits off East Franklin Street in the Town of Horseheads.

He went under, and didn’t come back up. Parker resurfaced by the time emergency personnel got on scene.
He was taken to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
