Large crowds took part in Elmira’s Women’s March, held at Wisner Park.
Young and old took part in an event that focused on peace, love and unity for all.
“It’s heartwarming. We know this can build,” said Jane Eckel.
Despite the low temperatures, it didn’t deter marchers from making their way from the park over to Elmira College.
To one local, it was an important gesture to show strength in numbers.
“I feel hopeful as my daughter grows up in this country that her rights will be protected,” said Maggie Young.
There was a record number of women elected into congress this year. And some said there is still plenty of room for improvement.
“The women were speaking about what needs to be done at work, with education, with heralthcare, reproductive healthcare and also how women only earn sixty to seventy cents on every dollar…still.” said Women’s March of Elmira Coordinator Jenny Monroe.
In addition to Elmira’s rally, sister marches have taken place all across the United States.
