As the icy temperatures due to the polar vortex move into the region this week, there’s one piece of equipment that can be damaged that people often overlook – their cars.
Many components of vehicles can be damaged by extreme cold, and care should be taken to try and avoid further damage. One component of your car that can be especially susceptible to the cold – your battery.
According to Battery Warehouse owner Lewie Jenkins, when the temperature drops below zero your battery can lose up to 60 percent of its effectiveness. Jenkins suggests getting your battery checked before conditions turn this cold, and making sure to replace it every 3-5 years.
