Lack of volunteer firefighters begins to raise concerns

Local News

The lack of volunteers in fire stations across our nation and especially in New York has started to become a concern for many firehouses.

The Pine City Fire Department is one of the firehouses that is experiencing trouble when it comes to finding volunteers.

There are currently 30 active members at the department right now and that’s about half of the amount that they use to have.

The assistant chief of the firehouse says ‘part of that difficulty comes from the time-consuming courses and requirements it takes to become a firefighter.’

Many people just can’t find the time in their busy everyday lives to get the necessary training done that it takes to become a volunteer.
