It Takes a Village is a nonprofit organization with the goal to help students in the community.
With the first day of school just around the corner, It Takes a Village is holding a back to school giveaway for students of all ages, but they need your help first. The group is accepting donations of all kinds that will help students be back to school ready. This includes backpacks, supplies, clothes and shoes.
“I think that to give these parents a chance to get their children semi-decent things for school starting will make it easier for the kids to go back to school,” founder of It Takes a Village Aisha Smith said. “Hopefully the kids can come out that day and have fun and enjoy themselves, and get their school supplies.”
The giveaway will be held on September 3rd at the Ernie Davis Park in Elmira. On top of receiving school supplies, kids can take part in outdoor activities including face painting, free haircuts, and much more. The idea is for everyone to come together in support of one another, all while having a great time.
“Show your community support,” Smith said. “We’ve got to start doing something here, and I feel like this is the way to get started. It’s us coming together as a community, as mothers and fathers, and just trying to help one another.”
