A representative from the Rockwell Museum wants to encourage residents and visitors to get their “museum fix” at the Corning museum during the partial government shutdown.
The Smithsonian Museums in Washington D.C. are currently closed due to the shutdown, and will not reopen until federal funding is appropriated.
Although the Rockwell is a Smithsonian affiliate, the Smithsonian Institution neither manages nor provides funding to the museum, allowing it to remain open during a government shutdown.
The partial government shutdown went into effect on Dec. 22, 2018.
Other federally funded locations that are currently closed include the National Zoo and the White House Visitor Center.
The 19 museums within the Smithsonian Institution also include the National Air and Space Museum.
