An Elmira man is facing prison time following a shooting on Elmira’s Southside last fall.
On Wednesday, 31-year-old Willie Mack Jr. was found guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degree.
Mack Jr.’s guilty verdict stems from a shooting in the area of Mt. Zoar and South Main Street on Sept. 24 of 2015.
Police say Mack Jr. was found in the area holding a black hooded sweatshirt, which he was ordered to drop.
Upon further inspection police found a loaded Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol in the pocket of the sweatshirt.
DNA evidence gathered from the sweatshirt and a bandana also found in the pocket, linked those items to Mack Jr.
The second degree charge carries a maximum of 15 years in state prison, and the third degree offense carries a penalty of up to seven years in state prison.
He will be sentenced on March 28.
