All across Elmira, parking meters have started going out of service. Throughout the city, if there is a bag on top of a meter it means the meter is temporarily out of service.
The city is working to get the old meters repaired on a daily basis but in the meantime, Mayor Daniel Mandell of Elmira says the people of the community won’t have to be dealing with these issues for long.
Mayor Mandell recently signed off on a project that will be bringing ‘smart meters’ to downtown Elmira.
The new meters will accept nickels, dimes, quarters, and credit cards. They also will allow for more time to be added to the meter for people in the community who need to be parked on the road for longer periods of time.
