Another proposal was mentioned for New York’s 2018 State of the State Address– tackling student loan debt.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says this proposal will help “to alleviate the burden of student debt” and give students the “protections and the tools they need to succeed.”

His proposal includes appointing a student loan ombudsman, require all colleges to annually provide students– ith the estimated amounts incurred for student loans– including the amount of student loans incurred to date.

It also includes an increase in consumer protection standards for student loans, and prohibiting state agencies from suspending the professional licenses of individuals– behind or in default– on their student loans.
