New smoke alarm laws in effect for 2019

Local News

New smoke alarm laws are now in effect this year, according to the Tioga County Firewire.

After April 1, 2019, smoke detectors must be hardwired into the home or have a 10-year sealed, non-removable battery.

According to 399-ccc: “It shall be unlawful for any person or entity to distribute, sell, offer for sale, or import any battery operated smoke detecting alarm device powered by a replaceable or removable battery not capable of powering such device for a minimum of ten years.”

Once the deadline passes, real estate agencies will no longer be able to market homes that do not comply with the new law.
