The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says residents in the Northeast and Midwest may see the northern lights Saturday night.

The northern lights may be visible due to a geomagnetic storm. The map shows the areas most likely to see the northern lights; however, local conditions and extent of the northern lights will determine whether you’ll be able to see it.

According to NOAA, the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, is the result of electrons colliding with the upper reaches of the Earth’s atmosphere.

To observe the lights, the skies must be clear and free of clouds. The area you’re viewing from must also be dark enough to be able to see the northern lights.
