The New York Mets are going to the World Series for the first time since 2000.

The Mets swept the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship series.

Wednesday night they jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and never looked back.

Bottom of the ninth, 8-3 Mets, two outs, and here’s Mets closer Jeurys Familia pitching to Dexter Fowler. It’s a called strike three, and the Mets celebration is on.

The Mets have not won the World Series since 1986. The team lost to the Yankees in 2000 and the Oakland Athletics in 1973.

New York beat Boston to win the 1986 World Series. They also won in 1969.

In the ALCS, the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals play game 6 Friday in Kansas City.

The World Series starts next Tuesday.
