Police in New York City are preparing for New Year’s Eve, when hundreds of thousands will head to Times Square to ring in the New Year.
Though officials have received no credible threats against the New Year’s Eve celebrations, there will still be heavy security measures in place when the ball drops.
Nearly 6,000 officers, some armed with radiation detectors, bomb dogs or rifles, will be assigned to Times Square for Thursday night’s festivities.
The FBI will also aid in security and counter-terrorism efforts.
“We are very very confident that New Year’s Eve in New York City will be the safest place in the world to be,” James Waters, NYPD Chief of Counter-terrorism said.
Like in previous years, roads around Times Square will be shut down ahead of the event.
