ELMIRA, N.Y. (18NEWS) — Hit musical comedy, Sister Act makes its way to the Clemens Center as a part of the broadway series.

The Clemens Center kicked off the second featured show in its broadway series tonight with Sister Act.

The two night run of the show got off to a big start tonight as hundreds of people packed the Clemens Center for the performance.

The musical comedy comes to Elmira direct from broadway after 5 tony nominations. Sister Act’s score draws inspiration from Motown soul and disco anthems like Barry White, and had the packed house dancing in their seats.

In spite of the unfavorable forecast and projected snow storm that caused sports cancellations and some early school closings within Chemung County, the executive director of the Clemens Center, Tom Weidemann said no one was cancelling their tickets for the show.

“This has been a real phenomenon there is something about this show that seems to have really touched people because in spite of the forecast that indicated, ‘gee, you know you maybe you ought to stay home’ the phone has been ringing off the hook but not with people asking about turning in their tickets but asking please not to cancel not to cancel!”
