Southeast Steuben County Library now “fine free” for kids and teens

Local News

The Southeast Steuben County Library is offering a new program that will eliminate late fees and fines on overdue materials checked out from the kids and teen areas.

Late fees will still apply to material not checked out of the kid and teen areas.

Materials are still expected to be returned on time, but the library hopes the program will allow for late materials to be returned without imparting a financial burden to families.

“The Library realizes that overdue fines may have an adverse financial impact on some of our patrons, especially families experiencing economic hardship. Kids often can’t get to the library to return items on their own, and there are many things in a family’s busy life that end up demanding more immediate attention than returning library items.”
