String of car break-ins in West Elmira leads to an arrest

The Elmira Police Department received a complaint of a car and other property being stolen from a home in the 400 block of Foster Ave, on Jan. 6. The car was located two days later in West Elmira. Officers did execute a search warrant at a residence within the City of Elmira, recovering several items reported as stolen and other items which were believed to be stolen.

Due to this investigation the Elmira Police Department arrested Nathaniel P. Gilbert, 18, from Buffalo,  with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

During the investigation police found that numerous vehicles were broken into on the Westside of Elmira. Several individuals have contacted the Elmira Police Department reporting car break-ins, some with property stolen and some with the vehicle just being entered with nothing taken. These incidents are still under investigation and further charges are forthcoming.

The Elmira Police Department would like to urge individuals that have experienced this activity on the Westside to report this to police. The Elmira Police Department would also urge Elmira City residents to be sure to lock their vehicles due to this type of behavior.
