Suspect dead, nearby schools on lockout in Rochester shooting

Rochester Police tell us the suspect connected to several shootings Wednesday morning is dead. 

According to police, officers began chasing the suspect near Emerson Street. During the pursuit, the suspect fired shots out the window at officers while driving a U-Haul truck. The pursuit eventually stopped on Frances Street, where the suspect died. 

It’s still unclear whether he was shot and killed by police fire. 

Around 9:30 a.m., one person was shot and killed and another injured in a shooting on Post Avenue. The scene is near School #16.

Rochester City School District tweeted that students at School #16 are safe and the school is on a lockout. 

Police are also investigating a second shooting on Goodman Avenue near School #33. That school is on lockdown. There is also a heavy police presence at School #25 where district has confirmed an additional lockout.

Rochester Police tell us they believe the shooting on Post Avenue is connected to the second shooting on Goodman Avenue near School #25. 

Around 11 a.m., the Rochester City School District placed all schools on lockout as a precaution.
