Today is “National Nothing Day!”

Local News

If you’ve ever wanted an excuse to do absolutely nothing for an entire day, now is your chance.

January 16 is “National Nothing Day!” The day was created in 1972 by Harold Pullman Coffin, a columnist for the San Francisco Examiner who wanted to give Americans a day to “just sit, without celebrating, observing or honoring anything,” according to the National Day Calendar website.

It’s been observed annually since 1973 and is sponsored by Coffin’s National Nothing Foundation, registered in Capitola, California.

Don’t get too excited though – you probably won’t get called off from work. The day has not been established as a public holiday, which requires an act of Congress.
