A Town of Chemung resident is arrested for Welfare Fraud on Tuesday.
An investigation found 27-year-old Ashley Fenchel filed fraudulent paperwork with the Department of Social Services and received $2,313 in Public Assistance Benefits she was not eligible to receive.
Fenchel is charged with Welfare Fraud in the 4th degree, Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st degree which are all class E felonies.
The investigation was conducted by the Department of Social Services Special Investigation Unit and the Elmira police Department.
