The Turtle Leaf Cafe located on East Water Street celebrates its six month anniversary in August, 2015.
The restaurant relocated last winter from Horseheads to the downntown location, and serves a variety of dishes featuring organic and locally grown produce.
The first year of a business is crucial, according to Business Insider, 60% of restaurants fail within that 12 month time frame.
Owner, Adam Bunce said he’s thankful for the community support in the first few months of business at the new location, and is looking forward to many more to come.
“Every aspect of the last six months has far exceeded our expectations. I am very humbled by the way we have been received from the public and on the local people in Elm Mira and just thankful for a great staff that helps me represent the restaurant well,” said Bunce.
Bunce said he has a message for any one looking to help revitalize the downtown area of the city.
“We are here for the long run and I think we are just one business that is doing well in Elmira and we are just one example of how people can succeed in this area. It is going to turn around I believe that wholeheartedly, that in the next 3 to 5 years, the downtown is going to look much different than it has for the last 40 years. We need to stop talking about the flood and start talking about the future,” Bunce.
As for the future of the turtle leaf cafe which has proven very busy in it’s first few months downtown the business plans to continue partaking in outdoor community events and festivals.
